"Well, Mom, we can make plans, but God usually has His own."
- Kylee, 8 years old
Such a wise little girl I have. We've been thrown a bit of a curve ball and it's been hard preparing for a season that will be different than anticipated. Ky's gym training year round is specifically focused on competition in the fall, something we were all getting excited about! So much work and drive go into the intense training and Kylee has been so focused! When we visited the pediatric ortho MD, we learned that her "toe break" was actually a pretty big deal, extending through her growth plate, separating and traveling into her joint. The break bordered on the need for an operation, which we avoided, but a cast is necessary and recovery is expected to be a minimum of 8 weeks - right through her competition season. When Kylee heard the news, tears formed quickly in her big, blue eyes and my tears followed. "I'm so sorry, sweetheart," I whispered in her ear as I hugged her closely, knowing how much it hurt her. All that work and training... so very excited about competition... and now this.
Watching my daughter weather this "storm" in her life has been so hard, but also inspiring. She is an amazing little girl. She continues to go to gym and work hard on upper body and core strength. Because we travel up there less often than we normally would, she makes sure she works out at home on the days that she's not at the gym. She doesn't want this to be wasted time. Her drive, determination and work ethic are just incredible!
There have been many moments of tears as she watches her teammates eagerly prepare for the upcoming competitions. But after hurting a bit, she resolves herself to be the best cheerleader for her teammates she can be and has spent hours making bracelets for all her teammates to show her support and their unity, despite her lack of involvement.
My Ky... learning big life lessons in priorities, where her value lies, purpose in pain, and who she is... big lessons for a little 8 year old. It's been painful but purposeful and, for this mommy, many reasons to make me proud.

Thanks, Kylee, for showing me how to deal with disappointment, and for modeling courage and a great attitude when it might be easier to pull back. I love you! Papa
That is so hard! But how great that she can be so loving towards her teammates. Kylee, the bracelets you made for your team are beautiful!!!
Kylee, I am so very proud of you and your determination to keep working hard despite this temporary setback. Your loving attitude towards your teammates is wonderful to behold and is putting a great big smile on the face of Jesus.
We love you so much,
Your Grammy
