While dancing around with our baby girl and getting lost in the gaze of her deep, blue eyes, my heart felt so full. She has learned to stare into our faces and smile. Oh, the joy!
In that same moment, however, I had a terrifying thought - we almost said no!! While still swimming in deep waters of grief after our good bye to Adrian, we decided we could not do it again. We couldn't love and let go, we couldn't put ourselves through such grief. It hurt too bad, it cost too much and we were ready to be done.
But that was not God's plan for us... and am I ever so grateful!
Had we decided not to foster again, we would have said no to knowing and loving this baby girl. We would have said no to affection and adoration blossoming within our family. We would have walked away from opportunities to love sacrificially, to watch our children grow in compassion and care, to join with our Father in loving His needy and defenseless child. We would have missed out on growing in our appreciation for our Savior (thank you for the high price You paid in loving us!!), in trusting our Savior (Lord, you know this is going to break us, we trust You to heal our hearts!), in loving our Savior (this is Your little girl - in loving her, we get to love You).
In loving her, we understand more fully the depth of God's love and His passion for the weak and hurting. We get to see the beauty of His fingerprints all over the life of this child.
Yes, had we said no, we might have protected ourselves from heart ache and pain that most certainly will come, but we would have missed the incredible joy of being a part of God's magnificent plan ... and there is no better place to be.
