Buddy System

The buddy system - it has become instrumental in the way function as a family of 9.  Each "big kid" gets a "little kid" and I get the baby.  It helps us get from point A to point B in an orderly fashion and also builds relationship and companionship. Usually, the big kids will shout out which little one they are claiming, and, oh, how the little ones loved to be claimed!  No one feels alone.  We work together and help each other.  We work as a team.

Since the newest little family members arrived a month ago,  we've seen another form of "buddy system"come into play.  We have not been doing this alone.  Beloved friends have come alongside us, longing to help, to support, to encourage.  So many have been a part of our journey as we've loved these little ones.  We have been so very grateful, humbled and moved to tears often by such thoughtfulness and generosity.

Immediately when the little ones arrived, we had friends bringing over clothes, car seats and even a toddler bed to accommodate for their needs.  As we settled in, friends and neighbors offered to help transport kids to school and activities, which was extremely valuable.  Transportation help has continued to be offered when we're in a pinch and has been exceedingly helpful.

A week after our family had grown was Easter Sunday.  Often we will host a dinner for other families who also have no extended family nearby.  But still adjusting, I wasn't quite up for the task yet and we joked, "Well, maybe someone will invite us this year!"  Knowing, full well, that a family of 9 would be too intimidating.  But, we were wrong.  Some brave and beloved friends of ours invited us for dinner!!  What a wonderful, humbling feeling it is to be loved and served in such a way!

In addition, a couple of dear friends have helped with child care when we've had meetings or appointments to attend.  What a comfort it is to have people willing to love on and care for our kids!

So many friends have brought meals for our family.  Words just don't express how grateful we are for such a blessing.  It has been so very helpful and makes us feel so loved!

One day, some friends went on a shopping spree and fully stocked my fridge!!  My heart was SO full of appreciation!

The same friends delivered these little goodies that continue to be a sweet pick-me-up in my day.

Jim's parents came out for a visit and allowed Jim and I to get out and enjoy an evening together!  It had been a loooooong time since our last date and we know how important it is to stay in love and maintain a strong marriage, especially when caring for so, so many little ones!  We praise God often for the relationship He's given us and the ministry we've been entrusted with!

There could not have been better timing for these gifts!!!  In the middle of one of Jim's travels for work, I went to get the mail and was, again, moved to tears by 2 encouraging cards and gift cards from friends.  In the midst of long and exhausting days of parenting solo, I was reminded, "We care for you and want to support you!"

Also in the midst of Jim's travels, I found a box of diapers upon my porch!  As I now have 2 little bottoms in the home that depend upon them, such a gesture was so very practical and appreciated!!

Oh how we need each other!  We have been so grateful for the friends who have come along side us to support, help and encourage us along the way.  We have been so touched by the way they have shown love and compassion.  They have enabled us to run the race with perseverance, without losing heart and growing weary.  THANK YOU!!
